Alexander Wang to Take Balenciaga?
Just after the announcement that Nicolas Ghesquière would no longer be the creative director at Balenciaga, rumors began circulating about who would take over the prestigious job. According to The New York Times’ fashion critic Cathy Horyn, Alexander Wang is the current frontrunner, as Balenciaga’s owner group PPR sees a lot of potential from the New York-based designer. Wang has made edgy street style commercially successful, reflecting a similar style to Ghesquière’s.
Meanwhile, WWD reported yesterday that PPR was looking to invest in Christopher Kane’s label, shooting down previous stories that he would be next at Balenciaga. If this is true, the rumor of rival group LVMH signing a deal with Nicolas Ghesquière will seem more likely, as PPR would want Kane to help strengthen their company. This news comes along with the announcement of J.W. Anderson’s capsule collection for Versus with Christopher Kane’s former boss, Donatella Versace.
It’s just another day in fashion news, as the stories of designers shuffling between houses never seem to slow down.
