Dior Dolls

Christmas seems to be right around the corner, and what would the year’s top holiday be without window displays? Dior has teamed up with Paris department store Printemps for its annual holiday window displays, which will pay homage to the brand’s most iconic designs. From Christian Dior’s own pieces, to John Galliano’s work for the house, and even Raf Simons’ latest looks, a series of 2-foot dolls will be shown in 11 windows around Printemps. Couture ateliers at 30 Avenue Montaigne, the house of Dior’s exclusive atelier recreated specific looks for the dolls, each with male counterparts in Dior Homme.

Unfortunately, the Dior dolls aren’t for sale. However, a holiday collection comes with the festive displays, featuring bags, scarves, watches, shoes, and even snow globes. Meanwhile, the finished products of the windows will be unveiled at Printemps on December 9 by French actress Marion Cotillard, the face of Dior.

Galliano vs. Simons

Now, every time a design house takes new creative direction it is inevitable that everyone is going to compare the new guy with his or her predecessor.  And when you have a house as famous and with such visual recognition as Christian Dior the new guy ends up with major shoes to fill. Raf Simons dealt with this head on making his vision for the house very clear in a profile in Australian Vogue.

“I want to get away from couture just being done for a picture, or for a single moment on the red carpet. I want to try and convince women that couture can be worn in the day and that there’s a reality and relevance there, because that’s what Mr Christian Dior wanted. In my opinion Christian Dior was never, ever theatre.” He continues, “I have so much respect for John’s technical skills and the fantasy, it’s just something that I don’t find relevant now, especially when it restricts a woman, because in every other area they have so much freedom now.”

Whoa… now do we want monsieur minimalist to pump the breaks on his criticism of maximalist John Galliano and his ability to bring the fantasy world of our dreams to fashion or are we all about taking that museum-like curatorship off the runway?

Dior Makes A Mark Right On Your Skin – Gold Dior Tattoos

Gold is making an appearance everywhere.  Whether it be in the most luxurious of ways or discreet ways, gold is making its mark.  French fashion house Dior is also taking gold into its own hands but with a twist.  Tattoos, what do you expect?

With jewelry in its full effect lately, Dior wanted to reinvent the art of decorating the body to a more permanent state, or at least semi-permanent.  Dior came up with a brilliant and truly out of the box concept to display new jewelry ideas as well as staying within the reality of society.

Today, social trends revolve around body art especially tattooing.  Although it may be compelling to stay within society and the now of today, tattoos are permanent.  Well, fear no more tattoo virgins Dior has solved your problem.

Made out of 24k gold leaf you would think this innovative jewelry would have stayed on the shelves for a bit longer right?  Wrong, this limited edition idea has already been sold out of Nordstrom department stores throughout the United States.

The collection included everything from chain bracelets to rings and earrings.  Each tattoo went for a whopping $120.  Do you think it’s worth it?

Dior Flower Installation

We ended last week with Dior and we’re starting this week…with Dior! Raf Simons, Dior’s new creative director, presented his first couture collection. And the backdrop of his premier collection… over a million flowers and four days of installation. And we though only the fairies of True Blood could achieve this look.

LV for Life?

Perhaps not for life, but Marc Jacobs says he is staying put! All the fashion world has been abuzz about whether or not Marc Jacobs would be stepping up as the head of Dior. As most know, the ex-designer for Dior, John Galliano, was removed from the label after a… “manic episode”?

Jacobs, who is the head of both Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, recently explained to Vogue:
There have been on-and-off conversations about Dior. I don’t know; maybe years from now, I may end up going someplace else, maybe Dior. But right now I am at Vuitton, and all that matters to me is that that’s where I am and I’m going to keep doing my thing.”

While we would love to see what Marc would do with Dior, Marc said “I am at Vuitton, and I am very happy there” – We’re happy you’re there too!

New Dior Commercial

If you haven’t been getting your regular dose of TV lately you may have missed the new Dior commercial featuring some of our favorite ladies: Charlize Theron… Grace Kelley…Marylin! Check it out for yourself.

The fragrance ads this season have been little beacons of perfection. Definitely time to get into the holidays!

Kloss to Walk with The Angels

Puts the term “barely legal” into new definitons – Karlie Kloss, known best for print campaigns for “Lola” – Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Dior, who is now officially 18, will be walking in this years Victoria Secret Fashion Show at the end on November.

Recently, there has been some debate about how ‘sexy’ Kloss had been portrayed while still a minor. But now that she is an “adult”, she can strut her stuff down the runway in barely there undergarments and (hopefully!) a lot of body glitter!

Be sure to check out the Victoria Secret Fashion Show on November 29th at 10pm on CBS.

Dior and Chanel Makeup Guns

Make up, Art, and looks to kill for combined into one nifty pistol shaped weapon of mass destruction. Yes ladies these guns are packing, but not with any bullets. These Pistols are filled with jewlery designer Ted Noten’s idea of women essentials. One model is called Dior001 (the white gun) and it is loaded with accoutrements, including Dior lip gloss, an antique hairpin, an array of pharmaceuticals, a USB stick with “secret information,”
and a 100-gram sterling silver bar.

Then you have the Chanel001 (the black gun) loaded with Chanel lip gloss, an antique hairpin, a 18k gold toothpick, a perfume bottle with an 18k gold mechanism, a 50-gram 24kt gold bar, a USB stick, and a Viagra pill.  Basically, all the stuff a girl wouldn’t leave home without. If you are looking to purchase these hot commodities be ready to shell out some big bucks. The white Dior gun will set a girl back 8,000 Euros, or about $11,500. The black Chanel gun, however, costs over $17,000, on the bright side if you purchase one of the compacts, Noten’s studio can customize it and arrange refills.  To purchase these items visit tednoten.com
